A Nose Thread Lift Case: From Assessing a Low, Blunt Tip to Treatment

Patients who come to the clinic with concerns about their nose very often say, “My nose tip is low and blunt, so my profile looks heavy.” Today, based on an actual case, I would like to walk through how we assessed a low, blunt nose tip and how we approached it with a nose thread lift.

The concern: a low, blunt nose tip

Not long ago, someone came from Japan with concerns about their nose tip.

They said surgery felt frightening and they did not want it, but because the tip was low and round, their profile bothered them more than the front view. Even with the same concern of “a low nose tip”, the cause differs from person to person. So before deciding on a treatment, we need to look at why the tip appears low.

Why a nose tip can appear low

There are broadly three reasons a nose tip appears low and blunt.

Weak cartilage support — The most common is weak support from the cartilage holding up the nose tip. There is not enough strength to lift the tip, so it appears to settle downwards.

Thick soft tissue — In some cases the soft tissue covering the nose tip is thick. The tissue above the cartilage is thick enough to create a blunt impression.

Balance with the nose bridge — Sometimes the balance with the bridge is the cause. It is not a problem with the tip alone, but appears low within the flow of the bridge line.

What kind of treatment is a nose thread lift?

A nose thread lift is a treatment that uses absorbable threads to support the nose tip or bridge from within.

Where the tip appears low because the strength holding it up is weak, the thread adds support from inside in the direction that lifts the tip. So among the three causes mentioned above, it is an approach that suits “weak cartilage support” particularly well.

How does nose filler differ from a nose thread lift?

If filler is a method of raising the nose by filling in volume, a nose thread lift is a treatment that adds a supporting structure to define the line.

In this person’s case, adding volume alone with filler could have emphasised the bluntness further. So I judged that a support-based approach suited them better than filling volume, and recommended a nose thread lift. Based on the cause identified in the assessment, we built the plan with the focus on supporting the nose tip.

Worth knowing before a nose thread lift

If surgery feels like too much and your nose tip is on your mind, so you are looking into a nose thread lift, it is better to first confirm why the tip appears low, rather than deciding on the treatment first.

If support strength is the cause, a nose thread lift can help. But if soft tissue thickness is the larger cause, other approaches such as alar botox or a nose contouring injection may need to be considered alongside it. Because I understand the wish to resolve the concern you have, what matters most is receiving a thorough assessment and consultation first, and then choosing the treatment that suits you.

Why the cause has to come before the treatment

Even with the same concern of “a low nose tip”, a different cause means a different approach.
