Shurink Universe uses four types of cartridge — 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 3.0mm and 4.5mm — divided according to the area and the concern, because thin areas such as around the eyes and deeper areas such as the jawline have different target layers altogether. Add MP mode, which delivers energy continuously in a line, and curved areas can be covered without gaps.

Which layer does ultrasound lifting in Gangnam target?

Shurink Universe stimulates deep tissue without damaging the skin surface, firming a slackened contour from the inside. The principle is to focus ultrasound energy at a specific depth to create fine thermal coagulation points (TCP).

The core target is the SMAS (fascial) layer. The SMAS layer is a firm membrane wrapping the muscle, acting as a framework that supports the outer skin and fat layer from beneath. As this layer loosens, the tissue covering it descends along with it.

To put it another way, a thermal coagulation point (TCP) is the fine coagulation point created where ultrasound energy gathers to contract tissue, and the depth at which those points are made is what determines the direction of the treatment.

How does Shurink Universe differ from the earlier version?

The earlier Shurink delivered energy in the form of points, which left gaps between those points where energy did not reach.

Shurink Universe adds MP mode, which delivers energy continuously in a line, alongside the existing Normal mode. Because delivery is uninterrupted, curved areas such as around the eyes and mouth can be covered without leaving gaps. MP mode is not a mode that delivers stronger energy but one that narrows the spacing of delivery to reduce gaps.

How are the cartridges divided by depth?

Using all four is not the right answer in itself. The combination and the weighting change according to the depth at which your main concern sits. Choosing a cartridge is a matter of choosing the depth a concern sits at, not the type of concern.

Why is the eye area handled separately?

The skin around the eyes is the thinnest on the face. Applying the depth used on the cheeks or jawline would pass straight through the target layer.

This is why a dedicated 2.0mm cartridge is used there instead. As the area is full of curves and moves frequently, the continuous delivery of MP mode described above is particularly useful. The eye area is one that needs its own depth and its own delivery method, even within the same treatment.

How should the skin be cared for afterwards?

Straight after the treatment you may notice temporary redness or a feeling of warmth, most of which eases within a few days. The skin can become dry, so it is worth paying attention to moisturising.

• Avoid alcohol, saunas and steam rooms for a week
• Hold off on peeling and scrub products over the same period
• Apply moisturiser and sun protection every day

Q. Can I have Shurink on the eye area only?

A. Treating the eye area alone with the dedicated 2.0mm cartridge is possible. That said, laxity around the eyes is sometimes connected to laxity in the forehead or cheeks, so how far to extend the area is decided after checking your condition.

Q. When can I wear make-up after Shurink?

A. Straight afterwards, as the method does not break the skin surface. For about a week, though, please avoid irritating care such as peels or scrubs, and keep up with moisturising and sun protection.

Q. When do the changes start to show?
